The recordings

Music

Melancholy, intimacy, memory. Songs suspended somewhere between reality and recollection.

Martian Girl (Earthling Edit)

A smoother, dreamier perspective on the strange world of Martian Girl. The Leah Jane Hendrix and LJH : Dark Bunny recordings approach the same idea from different atmospheres: one suspended in a softer dream, the other stranger and more psychedelic.

Process notes

Leah adapted the Dark Bunny version into a smoother, dreamier version, shortened and adjusted lyrics, iterated multiple versions, and made cuts, fades and structural changes. Vocal generation used a sample/model derived from her own earlier No Reflection vocal recording.

Alison

Loving someone so much you can’t bear to tell them. Alison lives in the space between friendship and unspoken romantic feelings: wanting more, while fearing that admitting it could undo a relationship that already means everything—even if it isn’t everything you crave.

Process notes

Leah wrote the lyrics and supplied her own rough sung melody, which was refined during production. Final vocals were transformed from her own recording. Instrumental backing was developed generatively under her direction. She iterated multiple versions and made cuts, additions, rearrangements and other edits in her DAW before further revision.

No Reflection

A recurring nighttime nightmare: a highway, a loop, and the unsettling feeling of arriving somewhere you have already been. During the period surrounding her sister’s illness, real circumstances seemed to echo the dream. No Reflection carries that unease through dark dream pop, trip-hop-inflected atmosphere and shoegaze-adjacent textures.

Process notes

Leah wrote the lyrics and supplied her own sung melody. She also created beats and atmospheric sounds that became part of the musical foundation. Those materials were developed into a fuller production, with vocals transformed from her own recording. Leah later edited the arrangement in her DAW and continued revising the song.

Nightfall

Around thirteen, Leah met a pen pal in London online. They shared a love of Labyrinth and imagined growing up, falling in love and marrying. They remain friends today. Against loneliness, growing older and an uncertain future, that childhood possibility becomes a memory that never happened—a small light to hold onto in the darkest night. Leah wrote the lyrics and originated the vocal melody.

Process notes

Leah wrote the lyrics and originated the vocal melody. The released version draws on a separate single-take studio vocal recording she made herself. She substantially cut, rearranged, retimed and repositioned material and vocals in her DAW before further generative refinement of the edited draft.
